This weekend, Sorocaba, located in São Paulo state, launched its G20 Favelas agenda, marking a significant milestone for social inclusion and the empowerment of local favelas. The event, which hosted the G20 Favelas, took place at Terreiro de Umbanda Caboclo Jupirama, a culturally and religiously significant space, emphasizing the commitment to diversity and respect for Afro-Brazilian traditions.

The opening was led by Drika Martim (@pretadrika), president of @cufasorocaba, who highlighted the importance of creating inclusive dialogue spaces. The opening panel featured local representatives such as Mãe Viviane and Alê, key figures in favela mobilization in the region.

During the event, the guiding themes of the G20 Favelas were presented, a crucial moment in developing proposals that will be submitted to the G20 Social. These themes serve as the foundation for discussing the needs and aspirations of favelas, promoting favela leadership and offering a platform where their voices are heard and respected.

A key aspect of the discussions was the importance of ensuring inclusive spaces, both within and beyond favelas, especially for those practicing Afro-Brazilian religions, which play a vital role in Brazil’s social fabric. By valuing and strengthening these traditions, the G20 Favelas aims to foster integrated and inclusive social development.

With this initiative, Sorocaba positions itself as an active center in the fight for a more just and equitable future, where favela voices are central to shaping solutions for global social challenges.
